FUNDRAISING AND SPONSORS
Oak Bay Band is grateful for meaningful partnerships with generous sponsors in the community. Some of these sponsors offer fundraising opportunities, which happen throughout the year. Other partners offer donations, supplies and community connections.
Fundraising efforts support student music accounts, assist in covering travel costs, as well as instrument and equipment purchases for the band program.

BAND STUDENT FUNDRAISING ACCOUNTS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Which fundraising activities go towards student accounts?
Students may raise funds through the sale of Fernwood Coffee (8/year) and Westholme Tea (4/year), Purdy’s Chocolates (2/year) and the sale of poinsettias at Christmas.
The band program also fundraises through Thrifty Smile Cards, bake sales and donations at concerts, however these proceeds are earmarked for the purchase of instruments and other necessities and do not go in to the student accounts.
What can funds raised through student accounts be used for?
Funds can be applied to activities to support students’ music education, including school Band trips (including spending money), music lessons, instrument rental and the purchase of music supplies related to the student’s music education. These expenses must be approved by the Band Directors and receipts are required.
How can I find out how much money is in my child’s account?
Contact the OBBPA Student Accounts Manager to find out the balance in a student account.
How do I apply funds toward a trip or other expense?
To apply funds to a school trip, students should notify OBBPA Treasurer and Student Accounts Manager of their desire to apply funds prior to paying for the trip. Two weeks' notice is required.
Are Band and Choir accounts separate?
Yes. Oak Bay Band and Choir run separate fundraising programs and maintain separate student accounts for activities in those programs; therefore funds from student accounts can only be applied to the program for which they were raised.
When a student graduates, can band accounts be refunded?
No. Band account funds cannot be refunded when a student graduates or decides not to continue in the band program, as the funds are raised expressly to support a student’s music education at Oak Bay. However, a student’s account balance can be transferred to a sibling, another student in the program, or will be donated to the general program.

Students: Earn funds for your band account! Did you know that for each bag of compost sold, up to 80% of the sale price goes to your band account?
In order to participate, students must sign-up by January 31, 2021. By signing up, students commit to selling a minimum of 50 bags and work all three shifts (March 4,5,6).
Regardless of personal sales, students must help bag compost until all orders have been filled, so sell a lot and make the time count!
Orders with payments are due in the band room by 9 AM on Friday, February 26, 2021. Please use the online summary order sheet to tally your orders and print a copy to submit with your payments.
Students are responsible for their own deliveries to customers. If your family vehicle is too small, we recommend borrowing or renting a pick-up truck for the day.
